Chip tuning is a now old fashioned term for ‘remapping’ or ‘mapping’

Modern engines are controlled by an on-board computer-The engine control unit (ECU), which controls the ignition timing, fuel pressure and turbo boost pressure.

Within the ECU is a software program (Map) which we download using specialist equipment, our software engineers edit that software using years of experience gained in the industry and then the updated software is uploaded in to the ECU (REMAP).

In most case this procedure is carried out electronically and remotely through the cars on-board diagnostic port (OBD). Some of the latest vehicles have a protected ECU these vehicles can still be remapped it simply means that our experienced technicians have to physically remove the ECU and perform the procedure on a work bench.

If at any time you wish to return your vehicle ECU to its original factory settings, this can be done as we always keep a copy of you vehicles original map on our secure server.

We can remap most makes and models of cars, vans and trucks, Diesel and Turbo Diesel models giving the best performance increases, both in Torque and BHP. This gives the car much better and smoother drivability than the standard map. Of course, what this means in layman's terms is that after remapping, your car will become both faster, more powerful and with greater drivability.

Manufacturers are by law required to add a dip to the power map on your engine between 2000 and 3000 RPM. This was originally meant to increase fuel efficiency. However, all this has meant in reality is that people just put their foot down more to compensate for this lack in power, using more fuel instead of less! One of the many processes involved in remapping a car involves removing this power dip, making for a smoother power graph as you move up through the gears. This smoother graph means you actually have to change gear less often, this in turn keeps your RPMs lower therefore increasing fuel efficiency.

All modern diesel engines run underpowered, Manufacturers build in tolerances to account for people who may not have their vehicles serviced in accordance with the recommended service period. A way of doing this is to limit the power available through settings in the ECU. Additionally your vehicle will be restricted to take into consideration sub-standard fuels used in other parts of the world. Or simply to fall into a certain vehicle taxation class.

Many manufacturers also actively limit their cars' performance for instance they may produce multiple models of a vehicle with different power ratings, in many cases these are the same engines simply with revised ECU software to increase or decrease the engines power or fuel economy characteristics for example so they can release a 'sport' version of the same car at a later date. The only difference between the standard edition and the sport edition (other than a few cosmetic changes) is generally the maps stored on the ECU. Through remapping the car, we can remove those limiters, essentially making your car perform exactly like the sport edition

The process of remapping itself will not damage your car - if a map does not give you the performance increase you expect, we can at any point replace the cars' original map - we always keep a backup. Some remapping firms try to push the cars' performance past its physical limitations. This is dangerous, and whilst the short term benefits will be amazing performance, the life expectancy of your engine will be dramatically reduced. We always do a full check on your car to make sure it will not have any problems when it is remapped, and we keep our maps well within the physical limitations of the car.

N.B. We will not remap any vehicle that is not in good mechanical order and insist that your vehicle is always serviced in accordance with your manufacturer's service schedule.
